Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles are through to the final of the ongoing WAFU Nations cup in Ghana, after beating Squirrels of Benin Republic by a lone goal in a semi-final match played at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Rabiu Ali’s goal, in the fourteenth minute of the keenly contested match, was enough for the Eagles to reach their third final in the history of the competition, since their last appearance, at the 2011 final, hosted by Nigeria in Abeokuta.
The Benin Republic side later played with 10 men, after Marceline Koukpo was issued a red card in the thirty-third minute of the match.
Niger and hosts, Ghana, are playing in the other semifinal game and either of the two will join Nigeria in the final.
Nigeria has been solid in the defense as they are yet to concede any goal after five matches in the sub-regional football tournament.
