Nigeria’s under-20 men’s team, the flying eagles on Sunday edged their counterpart from Guinea Bissau 1-0 to move closer to 2019 African Youth Championship.
After a 2-2 draw in Guinea Bissau, the Nigeria are better placed to progress but Djurtinhos of Guinea Bissau came to Nigeria a purpose of upsetting their host.
The hosts dominated the first period of the encounter, but Djurtinhos nullified all their attacking threat led by Enyimba forward Wasiu Alalade.
The effort of the Nigeria lad came to fruition in the 58th minutes when Alalade was fouled in the box by the Guinea Bissau defender which resulted to a penalty.
Adamu Alhassan calmly slotted home the kick to make it 1-0 in favor of Nigeria.
Guinea Bissau tried to level up the game but Nigeria defence led by Ikouwem Udoh held on to 1-0 win and make sure Nigeria progressed on a 3-2 aggregate victory.
