Residents of Nembe in Bayelsa State are fleeing their homes following the massive deployment of troops to track down Niger Delta militants who attacked the base of the Joint Military Task Force in the community.
The troops blocked some creeks and waterways in the state in the operation which began on Monday.
The militants disguising as mourners, in their attack on a military checkpoint in the area, killed three soldiers, injured others, and carted away arms, ammunition and military gunboats.
Spokesman of the Joint Task Force, Leuitenant Commander Abdurasheed Ahmed in a statement said the massive troop deployment aims at ensuring that the militants are captured.
Residents started fleeing the area, immediately after the militants for fear of reprisal attacks by the security forces.
