*Establishes new Army brigade in Yenagoa
Army has deployed about three thousand soldiers to the Niger Delta region for its amphibious training programme and to tackle criminal elements, including pirates in the region.
Army Chief of Staff, Leuitenant General Tukur Buratai, who made this known during a courtesy visit to Governor Seriake Dickson at the Government House in Yenagoa, also said a new army brigade is being established in the city.
Buratai said the troops were deployed to equip troops with necessary skills required to defend the region against external aggression and criminals.
On the new army brigade, the Army chief who said it was a response to the Governor’s request, explained it would be named 61 army brigade.
He added that a commander had been appointed for the new army brigade.
