New Wage Talks: FG, Labour Meet Again Sept 16

Presidency and the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council are to meet on September 16, on the implementation of the new national minimum wage.

The earlier meeting fixed for September 4 was suspended at the last minute.

The council’s Secretary General, Alade Lawal, says the fresh meeting is convened by the presidency.

The negotiation of the adjustment of the new wage signed into law by President Buhari last April 18, for workers earning #30,000 monthly and above had been deadlocked.

Federal Government during the negotiations insisted on the adjustment of the new wage by 9.5 per cent for workers on salary grade level 7 to 14, and five percent for those on level 15 to 17.

This position was countered by the Organised Labour which demanded 30 per cent increase for workers on salary grade level 7 to 14, and 25 percent for those on level 15 to 17.
