New police chief orders officers to declare assets

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has directed police officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent to declare their assets.

Idris who issued the directive during a visit to the Interior Minister, Abduraman Dambazzau, in his Abuja office, said he will also declare his own assets like other officers in compliance with section 13 of the code of conduct law.

The asset declaration, he said was part of his agenda to standardize the police force.

He also said the x-squad would be revived and strengthened to check corruption tendencies among officers, adding that the x-squad would later extend its operations to staff of federal, states and local governments.

Idris also said police under his leadership would make the streets safe from criminals and make the presence of police felt more in cities, towns and villages
