National grid collapse blamed on fund and gas pipeline vandalization

Works, Power and Housing minister, Mr Babatunde Fashola

The frequent collapse of national electricity grid in the recent time has been blamed on funding and vandalization of gas pipeline in the Niger Delta region.

Power, Works and Housing minister, Raji Fashola, made this known to the state house correspondents at end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Fashola who told the correspondents that the grid collapse was not technical, explained that the power plants operators are owing the suppliers of gas.

The minister also said that the vandalization of the gas pipeline in delta state, the Escravos to Lagos pipeline and Escravos export terminal have combined to reduce the production of gas needed by the power plants

He added that frantic moves are being made to repair the Kainji Hydro Electric power plant and Afam thermal power plant following the recent fire outbreak there
