A bill seeking the scrapping of the presidential system of government in the country, is now before the House of Representatives.
The sponsors of the bill, want the re-introduction of the parliamentary system, which the country practiced during the first republic, before the military intervention.
The bill was sponsored by 71 members of the house from all the political parties in the house.
It passed through the first reading during the Thursday plenary.
Spokesman of the sponsors, Kingsley Chinda, said the current presidential system has created a bloated government and disharmony between the executive and legislative arms of government.
