Ramadan to start on May 27, says moon sighting committee

Muslims nationwide have begun the 2018 Ramadan fast.

This followed announcement on Wednesday night by the sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, that today should the first day of Ramadan fast in Nigeria.

The Sultan, who is the president of Nigeria Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs, in a special broadcast in Sokoto, announced the sighting of the new moon in various parts of the country.

The moon, according to him, was sighted in Sokoto, Niger, Yobe, Rivers, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa states and other parts of the country.

He urged Muslim community to devote themselves fully to the worship of Allah throughout the holy month.
