Muslims, nationwide, are today celebrating the Eid El Fitr to mark the end of the month long Ramadan fast

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, announced the end of the fasting period following the sighting of the new moon on Thursday night in parts of the country.

The sultan, who heads the Nigeria supreme council on Islamic affairs, in a special broadcast told the Muslim community that the new moon was sighted in parts of Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Borno, Jigawa, Nasarawa and Plateau States.

He urges them to continue to live in peace irrespective of the religious, ethnic and cultural differences.
