The management of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta has promised that lecturers at the institution will be accommodated in the upgrading of the polytechnic to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology.

Also, students undergoing programmes at the polytechnic will be allowed to complete them.

The polytechnic rector, Professor Oludele Itiola who gave the assurance, while speaking with newsmen in his office, said the academic staff will be given a grace period to upgrade their academic qualification and fit into the university  system.

The lecturers had pleaded with the Ogun state government to give them more time to improve on their academic qualification to teach in the proposed university or move their services to the new Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia.

The rector explained that the institution had been sensitizing both the academic and non academic staff in the past two years, to prepare for the new university, adding that some of the lecturers had since then obtained doctorate degrees, while 25 others will soon complete their doctorate programmes

On the call by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic to be part of the technical team to midwife the transition of the polytechnic into a university, the rector said the transition committee will decide on the request.

The rector also allayed the fears of the students under going national diploma (ND) and higher national diploma (HND) programmes in the polytechnic, saying the present students will be allowed to complete their programmes.
