A 35 year old man, Adekunle Olalere has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Abeokuta high court, for raping a two years old girl at Mowe in Ogun state.
The convict, a father of four daughters, was docked on a sole count charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge with a minor.
The state assistant chief state counsel,Mrs Oluyemisi Aruleba, told the court that he committed the offence on march 22,2017 at number 18,bashorun street, off unity road, Olowotedo in Mowe.
The prosecutor said that the girl and her mother who were living with the convict, were assisting his wife in selling foodstuff.
Justice Abiodun Akinyemi expressing concern over the rising cases of rape, said the act is now becoming a threat to children in the society, adding that any punishment less than life imprisonment is injustice and illegal.
He thereby found the man guilty and ordered him to spend the rest of his life in prison.
The convict will be the third rapist to be sentenced to life imprisonment by Abeokuta high courts in the last four months.
Others convicted include Kazeem Abdul-Jelili jailed last march 12 and Lekan Felix jailed last June 4.
