The man who allegedly hacked two primary school pupils to death in the Ogun Waterside axis of Ogun State is now in police net, forty eight hours after his escape.
He was arrested on Wednesday morning in a bush, at the Area J-Four axis in the Ijebu East local government area, by a combined team of policemen and local hunters.
The suspect, Lekan Adebisi, had been on the run since he hacked the pupils to death with machete at Saint John Anglican School, in Agodo, on Monday morning.
Spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect, who was tracked to a bush, attacked policemen and hunters attempting to arrest him with a machete.
Oyeyemi explained that the search team managed to overpower him after shooting him on his foot.
He was then taken to the Abigi Police Divisional Headquarters in Ogun Waterside, after a medical treatment of the wound he sustained.
“In compliance with the CP’s order, the Area Commander mobilized policemen and local hunters for the manhunt of the suspect.
“Their efforts paid off in the early hours of today (Wednesday), when the suspect was seen in a bush around the community. While they wanted to arrest him, the suspect who was brandishing a sharp cutlass, attacked them, consequent upon which he was shot and injured on the leg. He has been taken to hospital for medical treatment,” Oyeyemi said.
The state police commissioner, Ahmed Ilyasu, had directed his transfer to the state criminal and intelligence department at the Police Command, Eleweran in Abeokuta.
