Governor Aminu Maisari of Katsina State has opposed the growing calls for the scrapping of the Almajiri system of education in the north.
Instead, the governor wants the system to be reformed to address the challenges of out-of-school children syndrome.
Maisari made the call while receiving members of the board of the Universal Basic Education in the north region at the Government House in Katsina.
In reforming the Almajiri system, the governor says that a line must be drawn between the system and street begging.
He canvassed for incorporation of western education, as well as provision of infrastructure at the Almajiri schools.
