Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has asked the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and Department of State Security Service (DSS) to beef up security around its secretariat in Abeokutaand top officials ahead of the October 8 council poll in the state.
The Agency’s Chairman, Alhaja Risikat Ogunfemi made the call during visit to the headquarters of the various security agencies in the state capital, where she met with top security chiefs, including the State Police Commissioner, Abdulmajid Ali, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Aboluwoye Akinwande and the State Director of DSS, Kabiru Sani.
Ogunfemi who attributed the success of the 2012 Local Government polls to the efforts of security operatives in the state, requested for adequate security for election materials at OGSIEC office before and during the poll.
The Police Commissioner pledged the total police support by liasing with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free poll, while asking politicians not to see election as a do or die affairs and accept the polls results in good faith.
Also the State Commandant of NSCDC, Aboluwoye Akinwande, promised to work with the police and other security agencies to provide adequate logistic for the smooth conduct of the poll.
The State Director of DSS, Kabiru Sani also said his men would be on the ground in the state 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas before and during the exercise.
