Ogun State Government has asked people in the state to be on the lookout for symptoms of Lassa fever from people arriving the state from other states, including those who travelled to other states to celebrate Eid-el-kabir
The state health ministry said all the state’s 20 local governments have been placed on a red alert for the disease that has so far killed two persons in two states during the fresh outbreak.
Health Commissioner, Doctor Babatunde Ipaye, in a statement by the Ministry’s Information Officer, Mr. Adeniyi Akinbobola, listed some of the symptoms to be on the lookout for, as including malaria fever that has resisted the normal malaria drugs treatment.
Ipaye who said Ogun state is free of Lassa fever, asked members of the public not to panic, but to maintain personal hygiene.
The Commissioner said that all the state’s borders are being monitored by surveillance officers, and urged members of the public to report any suspected case to the nearest general hospital or call 0909-914-0121 and 0909-914-0122
