Lagos State house Of assembly has faulted a Federal High Court’s ruling directing the attorney general of the federation to recover the pensions and allowances paid to former governors serving as ministers or members of National Assembly.
The High Court also orders him to challenge the law passed by the state houses of assembly to legalize the payment by various state governments.
Spokesman of the Lagos state house of assembly,Tunde Braimoh , speaking on the court’s order, says the assembly will not join the Zamfara State House of Assembly to repeal the law backing such payment to former governors.
The state Houses Of Assembly, according to him, have the right under the 1999 constitution to make law for the benefit of the society.
He explains that the Supreme Court had already ruled in a case that no arm of government has powers to repeal the constitutional powers of another arm of Government.
