Kwara Assembly Strips Governor Of Powers To Sack Councils Chairmen

Kwara State House of Assembly has passed a Bill stripping the State Governor of powers to sack local government chairmen.

The Bill revokes the Kwara State Local Government (Amendment) Law of 2006.

The sponsor of the Bill, Kamal Fagbemi, says it is unconstitutional for a Governor on his own to sack Local Government Chairmen who are democratically elected by the voters.

The Deputy Speaker, Mathew Okedare, who presided over the Plenary, asks the Clerk of the House to send a clean copy of the Bill to the State Governor, for his assent.
