Kogi State Government says it has lost N213 billion to ghost workers on its payroll and the state’s 21 local governments in the past 13 years.

Auditor General of the state, Okala Yusuf, who made this known while presenting the report of the screening and verification of the state workers, said 7,606 ghosts were found on the state government payroll and 1,040 on those of the councils.

He said the verification exercise has reduced the workforce of both the state and local governments from 88,973 to 63,870.

The Auditor General also said the exercise also reduced the monthly wage bills of the state and local governments from N5.8 billion to N4.6 billion.
