Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Umar Ahmed, has resigned, amidst crisis raging in the Assembly in the past days.
His resignation came two days after narrowly escaping beating by a group of hoodlums who invaded the Assembly chambers and manhandled several of the lawmakers.
Following his resignation on Thursday morning, members elected majority leader of the house, Martins Kolawole as the new Speaker.
Deputy Speaker, Hassan Abdullahi read the resignation letter during the plenary sitting of the Assembly in Lokoja.
The change of guard came two days after a group of hoodlums invaded the Assembly and manhandled members of the house.
