The US Secretary of State, John Kerry, has asked Nigeria to resist the temptation of applying excessive force against Boko Haram now facing defeat in the North East region.
Kerry who arrived Nigeria on Tuesday on an official visit, warned that the military crackdown on extremism would create more terrorists.
The US top diplomat speaking while addressing a news conference in Sokoto, after visiting the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar in his palace, said after the defeat of Boko Haram on the battlefield, the government must strive to win the trust of the people.
The US Secretary of the State commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the way his government is fighting corruption in the country.
Describing corrupt people as crooks, Kerry appreciates Buhari for understanding the dangers of corruption, saying he is now regarded globally as the regional leader in the fight against corruption.
He also praised Buhari for the efforts of his government in recovery of stolen funds, asking government institutions to support the anti-corruption crusade.
