Kano Assembly reviews pensions for former governors, deputies

Pandemonium at Sokoto House of Assembly as lawmakers attempt to impeach Speaker

Kano State House of Assembly is considering a bill seeking to review the payment of pensions and gratuity to former governors and deputy governors in the state.

The move follows a motion by Alhaji Labaran Madari, who submitted that the review of the bill will reduce the spending of public fund on former governors and deputy governors holding political offices after leaving office.

Under the bill, he said that any deputy governor who later becomes governor will forfeit the pensions he was receiving as a former deputy governor.

The Assembly has set up an adhoc committee, to handle the bill and report back within two weeks.
