Nigerian prison service has confirmed that six inmates were killed during the attempted jail break at the Abakaliki prison foiled last Thursday.
comptroller general of the service, Jafaru Ahmed, who made this known during a courtesy visit to governor Dave Umahi at the Ebonyi State government house in Abakaliki, said 10 other inmates were injured.
Ahmed added that six prison warden were injured during the riot when some of the inmates attempted to escape.
he said the inmates after braking their cells, obtained arms from the prison workshop and attacked staff trapped in the yard, and pulled down the gate of the prison.
the fleeing inmates were shot at by the armed prison guards who positioned themselves outside the prison facility.
