INEC Says Courts Lack Powers To Stop Re-Run Polls

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says Court has no powers to stop the forthcoming re-run March 23 polls.

The electoral agency dismisses ruling by a Yola High Court restraining it from going ahead with re-run polls in 44 polling units in Adamawa State.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Kassim Gaidam, speaking to newsmen in Makurdi, says law does not empower Courts to stop polls.

He cited Sections 87, Sub Section 10 of the Electoral Act, which according to him, disallow Courts from stopping polls.
