INEC Proposes New 57 Thousand And 23 Polling Units, Meets Parties

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is proposing the creation of 57 thousand and 23 new polling units nationwide, preparatory to the conduct the 2023 polls

The move is the first by INEC since 1996 to add to the existing 119,973 polling units

The electoral body has convened a meeting today with political parties to table the proposal before them

They will be followed with a meeting with Afenifere, Ohanaeze, Pandef, Arewa Consultative Forum, Christian Association of Nigeria and Nigeria Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs, as well as Civil Society Groups

INEC in the proposal says it received requests from 5,747 communities, groups for the establishment of new polling units However, INEC in the proposal is opting for converting the existing 57 thousand and 23 voting points and voting point settlements into polling units
