In Kaduna state, it is now an offence for parents and guardians not to send their children to schools under the state compulsory free primary education scheme, which kicked off next month.
Also, the state government said it will no longer allow street begging in the state.
Governor Nasir el-Rufai, speaking at the launching of a documentary in Kaduna, warned that any parent who refused to send his or her children to schools as from next month, would be arrested, prosecuted and sent to jail.
El-Rufai asked parents who do not want their children to go to school, to leave the state.
the Governor’s wife, Hadza, whose documentary was being launched, said the number of girl-child out of school in the state was too high, and that government could no longer fold its arm for the trend to continue.
