An elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clarke, has stated that the Ijaw people are the most deprived and underdeveloped in the country, saying that is why they are more involved in militancy in the Niger Delta region.
Clarke who is an Ijaw leader, believes the Ijaws suffer more deprivation than the almajiri in the north.
The former minister stated this while receiving leaders of the Izon Ebi oil and gas producing communities at his Kiagbodo country home in Burutu, Delta state.
Clarke who is the leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum set up by the Niger Delta region to negotiate with the Presidency on how to end militancy in the region, said the Ijaws are the custodians of natural resources enriching the country, yet they lack basic amenities such as potable water, schools and hospitals.
