Ijaw leaders have said the armed militants who had been terrorizing communities in Remo and Obafemi Owode axis of Ogun state are criminals and not the Niger Delta militants.
They asked security forces to go after them, while apologising for the killing recorded from the attacks.
Chairman of Bayelsa State Elders Council, Chief Francis Dokpolo, stated this while leading a delegation of Ijaw National Congress to pay condolence visit to the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Adeniyi Sonariwo, at his palace in Sagamu, over scores of people killed during the militants attacks.
Dokpolo who was accompanied on the visit by some of leaders of the Afenifere, said the militants were oil thieves and criminals, and include Igbos and Ghanaians, and not militants involved in the Niger Delta struggles.
Ijaws who lived in the communities for long, he said remain in the area because they are not militants.
