Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has directed the immediate withdrawal of police officers attached to private companies and individuals in the country.
Those to be affected include very important people, political and public office holders.
Idris issuing the directive, during his monthly meeting with senior police officers from the rank of commissioners and above at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, said the decision is due to the increasing security challenges in the country.
According to the Inspector General of Police, a task force is to be set up at the Force Headquarters and state commands levels, to enforce the directive.
The police chief said, he will send a memo to President Buhari for approval, that will serve as a guide or template for the deployment of officers to VIPs, political and public officers holders.
He asked anybody who requires the service of police officer and found worthy will be considered after an application had been sent to the state police commissioners for revalidation of police officers previously attached to them.
