IBEDC fined N21m for poor consumer relations

Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has imposed a fine of N21 million on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) for its poor handling of complaints made by its customers.

The Commission Acting Chairman, Doctor Anthony Akah, in a statement said the company refused to obey the decision of the agency forum office on the complaints lodged against it by consumers.

Akah listed the complaints involved the installation of electricity transformers and the energizing of communities, adding that the excuse of non-availability of fund to respond to the complaints was unacceptable.

He said the sanction will start counting from last February when the commission’s forum issued the first directive to the company till last august 5, when it failed to respond to the directive.
