House of Reps resolves to revisit power devolution

House of Representatives

House of Representatives has resolved to revisit the power devolution clause, which it rejected last July, while voting on the amendment of the 1999 constitution.

The House members took the decision, following a motion moved by the majority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the resumed plenary after a two month recess.

Gbajabiamila in his motion, asked the National Assembly to act fast to douse the growing agitation for restructuring, which peaked after the National Assembly voted against the power devolution clause in the amended constitution.

The House also set up an ad-hoc committee to liase with the various interest groups and stakeholders, in order to resolve the contending issues that are threatening the unity in the country.
