House of Reps to probe 2016 Budget padding scam

House of Reps has resolved to invite the anti-graft agencies to investigate the ongoing allegations of the padding of the 2016 budget which is rocking the House.

The House Media and Public Affairs Committee, Abdulrazak Namdas, addresing newsmen on the issue in Abuja, said the house would also investigate the Former Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, Abdulmumuni Jibrin, who accused the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, the Minority Leader and the Chief Whip of padding the budget.

Namdaz said the areas of investigations that would be undertaken by the House Ethics and Privilege Committee, include the alleged abuse of office by Jibrin between 2011 and 2015 when he was finance committee chairman.

He also said Jibrin would also be probed for allegedly inserting projects worth N40 billion and other projects valued at between N20 billion and N30 billion into the 2016 budget.

The allegations will be handed over to the ethics and privileged committee after the house resumes from recess on September 13.
