House of Reps Oppose Arming Police With Stun Gun

House of Representatives has asked the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to drop his plan to replace firearms being carried by policemen with stun gun.

Arase had said that policemen particularly those on patrol duties would be equipped with stun gun to discourage the rising cases of accidental discharge by policemen.

The house which passed the resolution after adopting a motion raised by Ayodele Oladimeji, said policemen still need to carry fire arms in view of the rising cases of criminality and banditry in the country
