House of Reps considers bill to extend school teachers’ retirement age

Southern Leaders Forum fault Buhari’s position on restructuring agitation

House of Representatives is considering a bill seeking to extend the retirement age of teachers in public primary and secondary schools.

The bill sponsored by Adekoya Adesegun Abdulmajid from Ogun State, seeks the extension of the retirement age from 60 to 65 years

The bill passes the second reading during the Thursday plenary of the house after a debate by members.

Abdulmajid in the lead debate, says most of the teachers retired at the age of sixty, ended up in private schools where they continue to impart their knowledge to students.

The Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun, who presided over the plenary, refers the bill to The house education and public service committees for further legislative action.
