Hoodlums invade Senate, escape with mace

Senate vote against devolution of powers to States

Suspected hoodlums have invaded the Senate and escaped with the mace.

The hoodlums forced their way into the Senate chamber during plenary session.

Their brief invasion disrupted the plenary being presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, causing confusion among the senators.

The hoodlums snatched the mace which is the symbol of authority of the National Assembly.

After seizing the mace, the hoodlums ran out of the chamber with the mace and escaped from the National Assembly Complex in a sport utility van.

Addressing senators after the incident, the Deputy Senate President asked the senators to settle down for the continuation of the plenary.

He assured that those behind the incident will be penalized.
