National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has identified the Ilorin International Airport as the major staging point of drug trafficking from Nigeria into Saudi Arabia during the Hajj exercise.
The commission says that is why it banned the airlifting of intending pilgrims from the airport for this year’s Hajj.
The commission’s head of corporate affairs (media unit), Hajia Fatima Mustapha, speaking in an interview with newsmen in Ilorin, explained that most of the Hajj pilgrims from Nigeria arrested in Saudi Arabia were airlifted from Ilorin airport.
The airport serves intending Hajj pilgrims from Ekiti, Ondo and Kwara states.
