Gunmen have killed two persons, including a policeman, in an attack in front of a church in Onitsha in Anambra state.
The gunmen killed their victims at a parish of the Assemblies of God church along Oguta road in the city.
The attack occurred a week after a gunman killed 13 worshippers and injured 27 at the Saint Phillip Catholic Church in Ozubulu, also in the state.
The state police commissioner, Garba Umar, said the gunmen were not targeting the Assemblies of God Church.
He said it was not an attack on the church, adding “My men were on patrol near the church when they were attacked by some gunmen. It was not an attack on the church, in the real sense of it”.
The police commissioner explained that the gunmen attacked policemen on a patrol, and carted away the rifle of the killed policeman.
