Striking workers in Kogi State have suspended negotiations with the state government, following the killing of a labour leader in the state.
The labour leader, Abdulmumuni Yakub, who is the chairman of the state branch of the Science and Technological Board of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, was killed by gunmen, in front of his house at Ozuwaya, near Okene.
He was killed along with a man visiting him by the gunmen, who sprayed them with bullets.
Following the incident, the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress in a statement in Lokoja, say they are suspending their on-going negotiations with the state government to end the strike, to mourn the slain union leader.
The union leaders say, they will only return to the negotiating table, when they are assured of their safety.
