The Nigeria Governors Forum has opposed moves by the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to monitor the statutory allocations of the Local Governments.
The unit had already directs banks to pay the all the allocations of the Local Governments and others directly to the Councils, and not through the State Governments.
The Forum Chairman, Abdulaziz Yari says that Nigerian Constitution did not empower NFIU to monitor the funds of Local Governments, which according to him is a State issue.
He says the Forum will write President Muhammadu Buhari to direct NFIU not to dabble into issues not within its jurisdiction.
Instead, the Governors ask NFIU to focus on its core mandate of anti-money laundering and terrorism funding.
