Nigeria Governors Forum has opposed the freezing of the bank accounts of the Benue State Government by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Anti Graft Agency froze the accounts in the course of investigating Governor Samuel Ortom on his spending of security votes and other public fund.
Chairman of the Governors Forum, Abdulaziz Yari, said the action is unconstitutional and wrong.
Yari, addressing the state house correspondents after a meeting with Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said freezing of the bank accounts of any state government could shut down such a government.
Considering the security situation in Benue State, Governor Yari explained that freezing its bank accounts will cripple the state financially.
He hopes that the Presidency will prevail on EFCC to do the right thing.
