Civil servants, public servants and pensioners in Sokoto state are to pay levy to finance education in the state.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal who announced the levy at a meeting with civil servants in Sokoto, told them that the levy will be deducted from their salaries, as from January 2017, for a period of three years.
Workers on salary grade level 7 to 12 are to pay one and a half percent of their salary into the levy, those on salary grade level 13 to 16 (two percent), pensioners (one percent), and members of boards (one percent).
Also the governor, his deputy, commissioners, and special advisers will have five per cent of their salaries deducted for the levy, while local government chairmen and councillors pay five per cent of their salaries into the education levy.
