The Fulani herdsmen apex body, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has stated that Fulani cattle breeders lost over two million cattle to rustlers in the past two years.
The Association’s National secretary, Alhaji Usman Ngelzarma, in an interview, also said that 600 herdsmen were killed and several others kidnapped during the period.
He accused the media of failure to report the attacks and crimes committed against Fulani herdsmen, and also spoke of the politicization of the conflicts between herdsmen and farmers.
On several occasions, Ngelzarma alleged that Fulani herdsmen who were victims are often accused of being the attackers.
“In spite of all these, a section of the Nigerian media deliberately refused to report the crime committed against the herdsmen,” he alleged.
He cited the example of criminals disguising as Fulani herdsmen to commit crimes in Benue, Enugu, Anambra states and the Southern Kaduna.
