The enforcement of speed limiter in commercial vehicles by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is to begin on October 1.
The Corps Marshall, Boboye Oyeyemi, issued the new deadline at a meeting with major stakeholders, including public transport workers and owners in Abuja.
Oyeyemi said the initial date of June 1, 2015 for the enforcement of the device in commercial vehicles was extended for more consultations and sensitization of major stakeholders on the policy.
The FRSC Corp Marshall said ahead of the enforcement, the agency had obtained the approval of the House of Representatives after a public hearing, to introduce the policy.
FRSC says the device will reduce speed by commercial bus drivers and sharply reduce the growing number of deaths from auto crashes on Nigerian highways.
