Fresh explosion rocks Escravos-Lagos pipeline four days after repair

WAPCo transports 70m scf of gas daily, says MD

Fresh explosion has rocked the strategic Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline.

The explosion was recorded at Egbokodo-Omodion segment of the pipeline in the Warri South local government area of Delta State.

Group Managing director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has directed the immediate repair of the damaged section of the pipeline.

He also directed the supply of gas from other sources such as Ughelli, Utorogu, Oben, Erdo and Sapele to meet the shortfall of supply from the gas pipeline.

The explosion is coming four days after the re-opening of the gas pipeline which was rocked by explosion last week.

The last week’s explosion on the pipeline caused by a bush fire in Ondo state, cut off gas supply to power plants in Ondo, Lagos and Ogun states.

The explosion last week led to the collapse of the national electricity grid.
