Ogun state government says it is employing 3,000 food vendors to provide meal for 200,000 public primary schools pupils in the state 20 local government areas, under the free school meal programme of the Buhari administration.
Under the programme, pupils in primary one to three will be provided with a meal daily during school hours when schools resume for the 2016/2017 academic session.
The project manager, Mrs Tinuola Sopeju speaking to rockicity fm in Abeokuta, said the screening of the food vendors across the state which commenced two weeks ago ended on Wednesday.
Sopeju who is also the Special Adviser to Governor Amosun on Special Project, said food vendors recruited for the programme are those who have no record of child abuse, good at cooking and neat.
For the programme, she said the state government will purchase variety of food items such as vegetables, eggs and other farm produce from local farmers who are willing to sell them at affordable price.
The Special Adviser said the state ministry of agriculture is meeting with some of the farmers who will participate in the programme.
