Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta emergency unit deserted over Lassa fever scare

Authorities of Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, are meeting to address the challenges pose by the outbreak of Lassa fever which has killed two of its staff.

A top Ogun state government official, who spoke with Rockcity FM on the development, asked members of the public not to panic, and that government is on top of the situation.

Those who have died so far include a mortuary attendant and a nurse in the hospital.

Also, the hospital is still battling to save the life of another nurse, suspected to have been infected by the disease.

The two nurses worked in the emergency treatment unit of the hospital, which has been deserted by health workers since Rockcity FM broke the news of the outbreak of the disease on Monday evening.

When Rockcity FM correspondent, Seyi Ipadeola called at the hospital, the emergency treatment centre was cordoned off. The situation was tense.

But all other sections in the hospital were functioning with staff at their duty post attending to patients.
