Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta is set to begin open heart surgeries.
This follows the arrival of two doctors in the hospital from India, where they had undergone training in open heart surgeries and kidney transplant.
The hospital’s Medical Director, Professor Adewale Musa-Olomu, made this known to newsmen on the sideline of the conferment of the 2019 African Leadership Award on him by the Uganda initiative for positive influence on African youth in Abeokuta.
He says that a cardio-thoracic centre building will be built in the hospital, to perform the open heart surgery operations.
The medical director adds that, nurses and other health professionals needed at the intensive care unit will also be trained in India in the next six month.
Professor Musa Olomu also announces plans to build a 5 million Naira oxygen plant in the hospital.
Musa-Olomu explains that the oxygen plant will address the shortage of oxygen supply to patients in the hospital.
