FMC Abeokuta Deploys NYSC Doctors As Resident Doctors Strike, Bites

Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta has deployed NYSC doctors to support other health workers as strike by resident doctors bites harder on its services

The resident doctors, who began their indefinite strike last Monday have, vowed to sustain the strike until their demands from both the federal and state governments are met

Acting medical director of the centre, Doctor Fidelis Ojeblenu said the hospital for now is not hurriedly discharging patients on admission, because it believes the strike will soon be over

The medical director, speaking with a Rockcity FM correspondent, Busola Adegbite said the hospital is at the moment attending only to patients admitted before the take off of the strike

Ojeblenu also said that the emergency unit of the hospital is attending only to people with critical cases

He expressed hope that, the strike will soon end, so as not to avoid the loss of patients and further increase the stress of doctors and other health workers on duty, who are at the moment coping with increasing workload

Meanwhile, the resident doctors have given a minimum condition to the federal government to suspend the ongoing strike

The national president of the resident doctors, Doctor Okhua-Ohesuyi Uyilawa, speaking on a television programme listed the minimum demands as; the payment of outstanding salaries of members and payment of agreed hazard allowance

Uyilawa speaking on a television programme, also listed the enrolment of resident doctors in the Integrated Personnel Payment Information System (IPPIS) as some of the demands that must be met before the strike will be suspended
