Massive flooding is imminent in areas close to the bank of Ogun River, as Oyan Dam, operated by the Ogun-Osun river basin development authority, near Abeokuta, is to begin release of the high volume of its excess water into Ogun River
About 23 million cubic metres of water is expected to be released from the dam this month, posing danger to residents close to the bank of the river in Ogun and Lagos States
Lagos state environment commissioner, Tunji Bello, who made this known in a statement, says the volume of excess water to be discharged by the dam will drop to 11 million cubic metres in November
According to Bello, the excess water is being discharged due to the peak of rainfall in October, which expected to drop next month The commissioner advised residents of communities close to the bank of River Ogun to vacate them immediately
