5,300 homes have been destroyed by massive flooding in six local government areas of Kano state.
The flooding was recorded hours after the Nigeria Metreological Agency (NIMET) asked 11 states, including Kano state, to be ready for heavy rainfall and massive rainfall as from this month.
Executive Secretary of Kano state Relief and Emergency Agency, Aliyu Bashir, listed the local government areas affected by the massive flooding as Bebeji, Dawakin Kudu, Kiru Shanono, Bagwai and Garun Mallam.
In Dawakin Kudu, Bashir said over 2,300 homes were destroyed, while 600 homes were flooded in each of the other five local government areas.
The flooding was largely caused by the last Monday’s heavy rainfall which started six in the evening lasted till Tuesday morning.
